Smiley addresses Providence preparation measures and tips for hurricane season
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence officials are outlining their preparations for 2025’s hurricane season.
The peak hurricane season for our area runs from August through October.
Thursday, Mayor Brett Smiley, council woman Helen Anthony and the city’s emergency management agency director, Clara Decerbo discussed Providence’s investments in infrastructure resilience and emergency preparedness.
Mayor Smiley said a lot of those preparations were made in the city’s pending budget, which still needs to pass a second reading.
Meanwhile, officials emphasized the importance of preparing at home, including an emergency kit, creating an evacuation plan and preparing your home for extreme weather.
That includes severe storms, flooding and for extreme heat.
The Providence Emergency Management Agency said that residents were encouraged to sign up for emergency alerts using Code Red and PVD 311.
