Smithfield community mourning loss of music teacher

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE) — The Smithfield High School community is mourning the loss of a well known and loved music teacher.

According to the Smithfield High School Music Booster Club, Katherine Young passed away suddenly on Saturday.

The club posted to social media saying in part, “Her fierce and passionate dedication to the SHS community will never be forgotten. Her smile shone brightly. May her legacy live on through the lives of those she has touched.”

Counselors will be available for the school community Sunday from noon to 2 p.m., as well as in school throughout the week.
