Smithfield Girls, LaSalle Boys Win Team Titles, Many Track & Field Athletes Stand Out In State Meet

In the RIIL State Track & Field Championships Saturday, the Smithfield girls and LaSalle boys teams were able to gather up the most points to bring home the team titles to their schools.
Many other athletes standing out during the day at Brown Stadium.
In the girls shot put, Classical’s Alva Hicks was able to defend her title, with a throw of 39 feet, 9 inches.
The nationally ranked duo from Barrington stood out in the boys hammer throw. Senior Adam Kelly finishing second to his teammate, Bobby Colantonio, who took home the title for the second straight year, with a throw of 234 feet, 7 inches.
On the track, LaSalle sweeping the 1500 meter runs. Eliza Rego wins the girls race, beating out teammate Sheridan Wilbur, with a time of 4:32.
In the boys 1500 meter run, Jack Salisbury is the winner for the Rams with a time of 3:58.
What a day it was again for Hope’s Quashira McIntosh. The sprinter bound for the University of Nebraska next year finishing off an impressive high school career by winning the 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes Saturday. She set state records in the 100 meter and the 400 meter races.
