NEW BEDFORD, MA- A New Bedford couple welcomed their baby girl during the height of the blizzard. She was supposed to come in February but early contractions signaled she was coming sooner.

Wanting to wait to go to the hospital, California mom, Heather Westgate- who saw snow for the first time this week now realizes if they waited- getting to the hospital would have been a nightmare.

But her husband knows a thing or two about New England weather and drove her to St. Luke’s Hospital.

Within 20 minutes of arriving– she went into labor and gave birth to baby Evelyn.

“We probably already had 6 to 8 inches and I knew it was just going to keep accumulating so I shoveled us out, put our bags in the car and we came in; that was it. I knew it was going to happen,” said father, Chet Westgate.

The couple wanted her middle name to be Snow- but after thinking about it– changed their minds.
