Some roads remain closed in North Attleborough following Monday’s intense rain

NORTH ATTLEBOROUGH, Mass. (WLNE) — Some roads in North Attleborough remained closed Tuesday after intense rainfall Monday night.
Hoppin Hill Avenue, between Oak Knoll Drive to Allen Avenue, was still closed as of 7:30 a.m. Old Post Road was also closed between Allen Avenue and Mount Hope Street.
Detours are posted for both roads for drivers that can’t avoid the area.
Department of Public Works crews will be out Tuesday working to make repairs. North Attleborough Public Schools will be open and trash pickup will be done as normal.
Residents are reminded to never attempt to drive through standing water.
Officials said it was the second significant rainfall in town within 72 hours.
Reports of flooded homes and washed out roads kept crews busy all night.
Firefighters saved several people trapped in their cars across town.
Officials said about a dozen homes on Paine Road had significant flooding. One resident evacuated and was taken to stay with family members.
The town opened an emergency shelter for residents at the North Attleborough Middle School on Landry Avenue.
