Somerset man dies after being hit by car

SOMERSET, Mass. (WLNE) — The Bristol District Attorney’s Office said that a 55-year-old Somerset man was killed after being struck by a car while walking across the intersection of Brayton Avenue Wednesday night.

Director of Communications Gregg Miliote said that police received a call of a pedestrian struck around 9:30 p.m.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the driver was travelling westbound on Wilbur Avenue through the intersection with Brayton Avenue when he struck Matthew Martinville.

Miliote said that the driver then attempted to assist Marinville and called 911.

Martinville was transported to Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, where he was later pronounced deceased.
