South County Hospital patients concerned about their care to hold press briefing

NARRANGANSETT, R.I. (WLNE) — Patients of South County Hospital will hold a press conference today to demand a immediate change in hospital management.
In a release, patients said they are calling on the Governor and Attorney General to intervene decisively to restore stability and accountability to hospital operations.
Physicians state a lack of support relationships between executive leadership and providers, most recently exemplified by the resignations of the Cancer Center staff due to “irreconcilable differences over issues directly affecting patient care,” they said.
Several patients, battling serious conditions such as cancer and heart disease, will boldly share their struggles and fears about the continuity of their care.
The release further states that these patients will share how current hospital management has severely damaged doctor-patient relationships, fostering a toxic work environment that has driven away doctors and staff.
“In a decisive move, they will demand the immediate replacement of Board of Trustees Chairman Joseph Matthews, Chief Executive Officer Aaron Robinson, and Chief Medical Officer Keven Charpentier to safeguard the future of patient care and hospital operations,” states the release.
The press conference will happen at the Narragansett Public Library Conference Room at 1 p.m.
