SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI  – South Kingstown Police are investigating an assault, after two men reported being attacked at 12:30am Friday night.

Brian Watson,29, told ABC6 that he feels lucky to be back to work, at Leo’s Pizza in Narragansett because his coworker, roommate, and long time friend Sean Murphy, 39, is not as fortunate.

"He has a broken nose, he has a cracked cheekbone and they had to put him in a coma because he had swelling of the brain,” explained Watson.

Watson said the two were walking home from Bobby G’s pub in South Kingstown, when they were jumped at the corner of School Street and Branch Ave by at least 6 teenagers, right around the corner from their home. He said he tried to save his friend by throwing his own body on top of Murphy’s, to shield him from the blows.

"I kind of cradled him to make sure they would stop kicking his head, and that’s when I was kicked and had my glasses knocked off my face,” said Watson.

He then carried Murphy back to their house, and called police.

"Just bleeding everywhere… It was bad. It was really bad."

Watson told ABC6 News he has no idea why they were attacked. Murphy was taken to the hospital, where he still remains in the ICU.

The two have been employees at Leo’s Pizza on Boston Neck Road for nearly a decade. Employees explained that they’re all like family, and are concerned for Murphy.

"We miss Murph immensely here,” said Samuel Goncalves, a nighttime manager at the restaurant. "For something to happen like that to Murph, I mean, he’s such a lovable guy. He’s like everyone’s best friend.”

South Kingstown police have not made any arrests in the incident.
