South Kingstown Police arrest 2 New Yorkers for credit card scam

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — The South Kingstown Police Department said that two men from Middletown, New York were charged in connection with a gift card scam.

45-year-old Quanbin Huang and 46-year-old Zhixiong Lu were both charged charged with forgery and counterfeiting, conspiracy, and obtaining property by false pretenses.

Police said officers responded to the CVS n Main Street after a store employee saw a man trying to add gift cards to a store display.

The man left the store after being confronted but the employee was able to share his license plate number with police, which led the officers to detaining the two suspects.

A search warrant on their vehicle and three boxes were seized containing 1,848 suspected tampered gift cards, as well as 935 gift cards from CVS.

Both men are Chinese nationals who are also facing immigration charges stemming from their illegal entry into the U.S in 2023. They were arraigned and released on $10,000 surety bail.
