Southern New England Staycations: Providence Ghost Tour

Take a stroll along Providence’s East Side, and you’re taking a walk through a rich, but sometimes troubled, history. That’s why it’s such a popular spot for those looking to spot a ghost, especially this time of year–like those who brave the autumn night air to embark on the Providence Ghost Tour.
Led by our guide Nicki, the tour starts off at Prospect Terrace, where remains from Providence’s founder Roger Williams lie.
It winds its way down Meeting Street, then to the historic Providence Art club off Benevolent Street. That is where the mistress of one of the artists reportedly continues to haunt work crews.
Our tour wraps up on the Brown University campus, where Annmary Brown’s apparition reportedly continues to haunt folks at her namesake building. But perhaps the freakiest place on this tour is Brown’s University Hall, used as a makeshift hospital during the Revolutionary War. The wounds of French and American soldiers were treated crudely, painfully and often with little success.
Courtney Edge-Mattos is the owner of Providence Ghost Tours. She says interest in the paranormal continues to grow, and she welcomes even skeptics to come along.
