PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Rhode Island Dominican Parade officials announced last Thursday that a retired pro baseball player will headline a parade and music festival in Providence next month.

Former Red Sox player Manny Ramirez will be grand marshal at the Annual Dominican Cultural Parade on August 7.

The former Red Sox outfielder is a native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Ramirez played in the MLB for nearly two decades. Sports fans recognize Ramirez as one of the greatest right-handed hitters of all-time. He’s won two World Series titles in Boston.

The parade is a jam-packed day full of entertainment in a tribute to the local talent in Rhode Island. The parade will begin at 8 a.m. and starts at the intersection of Thurbers’ Avenue and Broad Street, and will move towards the Roger Williams Park.

After the parade there will be a live music festival. The festival will consist of 250 youth performers.

Quisqueya in Action is organizing the event, a nonprofit organization with a mission to preserve the traditional values of the Dominican community in Rhode Island.
