Special Olympics Rhode Island hosts winter plunges

NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WLNE) — Special Olympics Rhode Island hosted the first of two ocean plunge events at Salty Brine State Beach in Narragansett.

The 24-hour Super Plunge began at 1 p.m., and involved 17 participants with the Law Enforcement Torch Run taking a dive into the water every hour until the afternoon on March 23, and will be immediately followed by the Torch Run Plunge.

Special Olympics organizers said that funds raised from both events directly benefit more than 4,000 athletes in the state.
