Special Olympics RI celebrates RISP Corporal with the Elwood Johnson Outstanding Service award

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE) — Special Olympics Rhode Island said a member of the Rhode Island State Police Department received the second annual Elwood Johnson Outstanding Service award.

On Monday, RISP Corporal Kyle Shibley received the award which honors law enforcement in Rhode Island who show “outstanding dedication” to Special Olympics Rhode Island athletes and “embody the spirit of philanthropy and community impact,” according to Special Olympics RI.

Corporal Shibley was selected from 15 nominees who are “committed supporters” of the Law Enforcement Torch Run, which is a volunteer movement started by law enforcement to increase awareness and raise funds for Special Olympics.

“Corporal Shibley’s extraordinary service and deep connection with our athletes set him apart,” Special Olympics RI President and CEO Ed Pacheco said. “For over a decade, he has been a driving force in fundraising and advocacy, a constant presence at competitions, and a friend to so many of our athletes. His commitment to inclusion and his passion for our mission make him an inspiring leader in our community.”
