Spectators gather from all over the world for 129th Boston Marathon
BOSTON, Mass. (WLNE) — It’s Marathon Monday or as Boston dubs it, ‘Patriots Day.’
People from all over the world were in Boston to watch the 129th Boston Marathon.
“We love the city, we love the history and we really enjoy coming here,” California resident Jim Valencia said.
As always, the marathon began in Hopkinton and ended on Boylston Street in the city.
“Two years ago it was raining and everybody still showed up,” California resident Jessica Arroyo said. “Everybody was still so positive and cheering which speaks so much to how much the city enjoys the marathon runners to be here.”
For people like Arroyo, this isn’t her first rodeo. For others, it was their first time experiencing the marathon.
“I had no idea it was this big a deal,” Virginia resident Mickey Thompson said. “The amount of people that are here and how everyone talks about it, I had no idea.”
One Canadian resident was supporting her father who has run the marathon five times.
“I am so proud of him,” Amik Lupen said. “He is 67 years old and I am very proud.”
