Spring storm causes lots of headaches

The Spring storm caused a nightmare for commuters in Southern New England on Monday.

Passengers on an MBTA train heading to Providence were stranded for 90 minutes with no heat or light. The train stopped just after Hyde Park late Monday afternoon for what MBTA officials are calling a traction issue.

"I was just dying to get to the train station. It was freezing. I kept my coat on,” said Jorge Lopez. "They kept telling us that they were going to send another train and finally it did show up and they had to pull us. Another train pulled our train."

The trouble on the commuter rail didn’t end there. ABC 6 News caught up with one passenger who was ticked off after she was told to get off of a different train to take a bus to her final destination. Maria Penha told us once she got off the train there was no bus waiting for her.

"Not happy and no one here at the station to talk to,” said Penha.

The storm created really slick roads causing dozens of accidents including one over in Garden City in Cranston where we’re told a RIPTA bus drove over the foot of a wheel chair bound man who slipped while waiting for that bus.

In Providence, drivers could be seen sliding all over the place.

Carlos Orellana telling us he hit a school bus when he couldn’t stop in time.

"The bus was completely stopped, I had a good distance going like 10 mph. I started tapping on the brakes so my steering wheel doesn’t get locked up and even thought I was still doing that the car still slid under that bus,” said Orellana.

Rhode Island State Police say they responded to more than 60 crashes throughout the day.
