PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – The Rhode Island Board of Elections released unofficial election results Tuesday night for Senate District 3 and the East Greenwich School Committee.

The unofficial results show the State Senate primary election is a fairly close race, with Samuel D. Zurier coming out on top with 1,282 votes. In second is Geena Pham with 982 votes, followed by Bret Jacob with 908.

All of the Senate candidates are Democrats.

Zurier released the following statement following his win Tuesday night:

“I am grateful to the Democratic Primary voters of District 3 who have nominated me to be their candidate in November’s election. I had the opportunity to learn from them and from the excellent field of fellow candidates who also participated in the primary.   I look forward to bringing my message to the entire District as I begin my general election campaign.”

In East Greenwich, results show Democrat Nicole Bucka beating Republican Peter Carney by a significant margin, with Bucka getting 1,159 votes to Carney’s 799. There were four write-in votes.

About 17 percent of voters turned out for the State Senate election, and roughly 16 percent turned out in East Greenwich.
