State legislators request I-195 bridge updates
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – State legislators have reached out to the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) requesting updates concerning the I-195 Westbound bridge in Providence.
House Majority Whip Katherine Kazarian and Senate Majority Whip Valarie Lawson, along with several East Bay representatives and senators, reached out to RIDOT Director Peter Alviti on Jan. 10 to request regular updates on the repair of the bridge.
The legislators also asked RIDOT for updates on the expected timeline for when the bridge will be fully operational.
“The closure of this bridge has brought frustration and confusion to our constituents and unfortunately, we are all unable to answer their questions or address their concerns regarding when this stressful situation will be remedied,” the legislators said in a statement.
“While patience is needed, being able to give our affected residents clear updates on the status of the repair work will hopefully address some of the strain and anxiety that the bridge closure has placed upon the people of the East Bay,” they continued.
