25 protesters were arrested near Boston Thursday for blocking parts of 93 with cement barrels.

The two groups were protesting what they call “police and state violence against black people”. They sat on the highway with their arms shoulder-deep inside of 1200 pound barrels filled with cement.

The move blocked traffic on 93 North at East Milton Square and 93 South in Medford during the morning commute.

State Police say protesters prevented an ambulance carrying an Easton crash victim with life-threatening injuries from reaching a level 1 trauma center in Boston. That ambulance had to be diverted to a smaller hospital in southeast Massachusetts.

They also say many other ambulances had to be on-scene while State Police cut protesters out of the barrels, meaning they were not available if needed elsewhere.
