State Police arrest man for DUI after crash left passenger injured

EXETER, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island State Police said that a Charlestown man was arrested after a crash left the passenger of another car with serious injuries.

33-year-old Ryan Iovino was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor and/or drugs and driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor and/or drugs resulting in serious bodily injury.

The crash occurred around 12:40 a.m. on South County Trail.

A car trying to make a left turn onto Pine View Lane was allegedly struck by Iovino.

Police said witnesses allegedly saw Iovino “operating recklessly and traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the crash.”

The front seat passenger of the car sustained serious injuries and was transported to Rhode Island Hospital.
