PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – A State Police cruiser assisting with a roadside crash was hit by another vehicle late Tuesday night on Route 6.

Around 11:15 p.m. Tuesday, a State Police trooper had stopped to assist with a crash that occurred on Route 6 by Tobey Street.

The trooper was in his cruiser with activated emergency lights when a vehicle driven by Providence resident Chheng Long, 52, hit the cruiser from behind.

According to Police, when Long was questioned by troopers, he claimed that he was “disoriented by the flashing lights” of the police vehicles at the site of the earlier accident.

Long has been issued citations for obedience to a police officer, following too closely, and conditions requiring reduced speeds.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
