RAYNHAM, M.A. – A cheerleader from Seekonk was killed Wednesday night in a rollover crash in Raynham on 495.

At approximately 6:56 p.m. Wednesday night, Massachusetts State Police responded to reports of a motor vehicle crash on Route 495 southbound, just south of Exit 8, in Raynham.

Upon arrival troopers determined that two vehicles had been involved in the crash, and that one of the drivers had been ejected in the median strip.

That ejected driver, identified as 19-year-old Hayley Sanford of Seekonk died later last night at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence.

According to State Police, the preliminary investigation indicated that a 2002 Jeep Wrangler operated by Sanford, was traveling southbound in the right lane of Route 495, and entered the middle lane, colliding with a 2007 Honda CRV.

The impact sent both vehicles into the dirt median.

State Police say that the Wrangler rolled over, causing Ms. Sanford to be ejected and suffer serious injuries.

Sanford was then transported by ambulance to Raynham Park, where she was put into a medical helicopter and flown to Rhode Island Hospital.

She passed away at the hospital late Wednesday evening.

State Police say the operator of the Honda, a 76-year-old New Bedford woman, was transported to Morton Hospital in Taunton with minor injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

No further information is being released at this time.
