State Police investigating homicide in New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said that it is investigating a homicide that occurred in New Bedford on Oct. 3.

32-year-old Angel Avelino, of Lynn, was charged with murder.

The investigation is also being undertaken by Massachusetts State Police and New Bedford police.

At around 11:30 p.m. police were called to Acushnet Avenue for a report of a male stabbing victim.

The 51-year-old victim was brought to Saint Luke’s Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Avelino is expected to be arraigned on Oct. 7 at New Bedford District Court.
