UPDATE: RISP identify driver and victim of deadly 295 crash

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — State police say one person is dead after an overnight single-car accident on I-295 in Cranston.

According to police, the car was travelling south on I-295 when it lost control and struck a tree in the median South of Plainfield Pike at approximately 1:20 p.m. Friday morning.

20-year-old Chaudhry S. Talib, a passenger in the car, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he later was pronounced dead.

The driver, 20-year-old Hamad Manj and another passenger, whose name is not being released, also were transported to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Officials say speed appears to be a factor.

Manj has been charged with driving so as to endanger, resulting in death, and driving so as to endanger, resulting in personal injury.
