State Rep. Wants Cities and Towns to Handle License Renewals

A Rhode Island State Rep has introduced a bill that would let drivers skip the long lines at the DMV for license renewals.

Representative Daniel Reilly of Portsmouth submitted a bill that would allow cities and towns to handle license renewals.  He says that since AAA locations can already perform that service for members, there's no reason cities and towns can't do the same.

He stresses that it's not a bill designed to fix problems at the DMV – drivers often need to block out an entire day and wait up to four hours for service there – but it is a step in the right direction.

ABC6 Reporter John Guice talked toe Reilly and DMV customers who were excited about the bill, and he has the story in today's Voice of the People report.
