State representative announces candidacy for mayor of Woonsocket

WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — State Rep. Robert Phillips announced his candidacy for mayor of Woonsocket on Thursday.
Christopher Beauchamp, the former city council president, is the current mayor after Lisa Baldelli-Hunt resigned in November among scrutiny over a land deal, citing health issues.
Phillips has been the representative for District 51 since 2011. He also cited his leadership positions coaching in city youth sports leagues, in the Woonsocket Jaycees, and as part of the Beacon Charter School System, among others.
“I am delighted to share that I have made the decision to run for Woonsocket mayor in the upcoming November election,” Phillips said. “Having lived in this beautiful city for the past forty years, my wife Nancy and I have been deeply involved in its events and various organizations.”
Phillips added his two major goals in his campaign are to create a “transparent and inclusive” government and to ensure the city’s tax-dollars are “put to good use.”
“It is my firm belief that I am the best candidate to lead our city out of this stagnant situation and towards a brighter future,” Phillips said. “Woonsocket deserves a mayor who will prioritize the interests of its residents and work tirelessly to create a more business-friendly environment. Together, we can build a city that we can all be proud of.”
