PROVIDENCE – A  symbolic salute welcomed in the new state wide office holders. After Governor Gina Raimondo, Lt. Governor Dan McKee took the oath.

The longtime mayor of Cumberland was coincidentally sworn in by his opponent in the race, Ralph Mollis.

“My feeling is, that’s the procedure, that’s the best thing, but actually Ralph has been very, very good after the election so I think that’s indication that everyone wants to move ahead and move forward and move together,” McKee said.

This will be his first time holding state office, and he’s not alone.

Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea is also a first timer, as well as the first Latina woman in the state house.

And General Treasurer Seth Magaziner has some big shoes to fill replacing Raimondo.

He says he’s ready to take on the challenge.

“I think, when you talk to people around the building, there is a really common purpose which is to focus on the economy and focus on bringing jobs back to the state. It’s nice to have a building that is so united with that one goal in mind, and I’m just ready to get to work,” he said.

Attorney General Peter Kilmartin was also sworn in, for his second and final term.
