STONINGTON, Conn. (WLNE) — Dash camera video released by the Stonington Police Department Monday shows a man driving his car right at a stone wall where people were sitting.

Police said 75-year-old Wendell Hisle was behind the wheel and now faces multiple charges.

The officer who responded to the call on Aug. 30 had received a report that a pedestrian was hit by a car and the driver fled the scene on Masons Island Road, police said.

The pedestrian was reported to have a minor abrasion to the knee, according to audio from the police dash camera video.

While responding to the call, police said the officer located the pedestrian who was hit and then was alerted to the location of the suspect vehicle by witnesses.

When the officer turned around to stop that vehicle, the video shows the driver accelerate toward a stone wall where people were sitting.

Police identified the driver as Hisle, who was then arrested after driving a short distance away.

Police said the officers’ investigation determined Hisle had backed into and struck the initial victim after being asked to drive slower.

Hisle, who is from Mystic, Connecticut, is due in court on Sept. 10 to face charges that include reckless endangerment and criminal intent to commit assault.

He was previously released on a $250,000 bond.
