Storm knocks out power for thousands
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Thousands are without power Wednesday night after heavy wind and rain that came fast and furious through Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
“Stopped maybe within like 10-15 minutes,” said Lily Costa of Riverside. “Debris everywhere.”
The fast moving storm surprised Costa, who caught video of the storm ripping through the area.
“Oh my gosh I was sitting watching a movie and I got up and I’m hearing this loud wind,” said Costa. “And I stepped outside and went to open my door and my door just – wide open.”
The storms also tore a tree out of the ground in Chepachet landing it on a home which appeared to be vacant.
It also took down trees and power lines in Riverside, knocking out power to some neighborhoods there.
“I just saw the trees going back and forth, and the wind and the gusts,” said Costa. “I’m like oh no we’re going to lose electricity… My food is going to go bad.”
While Costa did not lose power, others in this area did, as well as thousands across the state.
