Hazy sun returns Friday, ocean swells this weekend from Ernesto
Thursday started innocently enough, but finished with a bang!
Strong thunderstorms rumbled across Southeast Mass and parts of Rhode Island, bringing flooding downpours, small hail and even gusty winds.
We received numerous reports of downed trees, including right around the corner from our studio. Hail from 1-2″ in diameter was reported in places like Westerly, Newport and Bridgewater.
We still have lingering flash flooding going on in Fall River area and a good chunk of central Plymouth county. 2-3″ fell in a mere matter of hours!
Skies will clear out overnight and the sun returns on Friday – albeit very hazy! The passage of this cold front will usher in a thicker plume of smoke from up in eastern Canada.
The weekend will be mostly dry, with partly sunny skies on Saturday and mostly cloudy skies Sunday. Most rain should hold off until Sunday Night into Monday and Tuesday.
Perhaps a good thing that it won’t be an A+ beach weekend as Hurricane Ernesto will push big swells towards the New England coast. 6-10′ waves and high rip currents are likely!
