STORMTRACKER ALERT: Coastal flooding possible Friday evening

Looking great for the weekend, but rip current risk remains high

As of 5:00pm Friday, Hurricane Erin has become Post-Tropical Cyclone Erin, and is moving farther off our coastlines. However, the impacts to our surf will continue well into the weekend. That’s why we have a Stormtracker Alert in effect for Friday evening, as a high tide between about 8-9pm brings the risk for some coastal flooding.

A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect for the South Coast extending all the way up Narragansett Bay until 10pm Friday. Expect minor coastal flooding and splashover that could flood parking lots and other low-lying areas. Use caution and remember never to drive through flooded roadways.

The weekend forecast is looking great, with lots of sunshine and seasonable temperatures. It may seem tempting to take a dip in the ocean, but sea conditions remain dangerous through the weekend. We have a High Surf Advisory in effect until 8pm Saturday, and rip current risks will be high Saturday as well, dropping to moderate on Sunday.

Heading into next week, we have a chance for some showers/storms Monday, but remain otherwise dry and mild.

Enjoy the weekend weather, but use caution and stay safe at the shorelines.
