STOUGHTON, Mass. (WLNE) — The Stoughton Police Department said it arrested a wanted man in connection to an investigation into an armed carjacking.

21-year-old Kusi Agyeman, of Stoughton, was charged with armed carjacking, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and failure to stop for police.

In early December, Stoughton police said they opened an investigation into Agyeman, who was wanted on multiple outstanding warrants, including charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, armed robbery with a firearm, motor vehicle offenses, as well as other charges.

On Jan. 8, police conducted a motor vehicle stop with Agyeman as a passenger.

According to Stoughton police, the driver and front-seat passenger complied with police and exited the vehicle, and Agyeman allegedly climbed into the driver’s seat and fled in the vehicle, causing a police pursuit.

The defendant then allegedly drove recklessly, reaching up to 100 miles per hour and on the wrong side of the road, according to Stoughton police.

For safety, the pursuit was cancelled.

During the initial investigation, police said they discovered the defendant had allegedly pointed a gun at the driver and told them to get out of the vehicle during the traffic stop.

Subsequently, Randolph police said they saw the vehicle collide with another in front of the Randolph Fire Department Station on North Main Street, and reported that Agyeman had fled the scene.

Stoughton police, Randolph police, and Massachusetts State Police searched for the defendant for seven hours and did not find him.

During this time, Agyeman gained another warrant after an incident involving a firearm in Canton.

On Feb. 25, MSP, Rhode Island State Police, the U.S. Marshals Services Fugitive Task Force, and Stoughton police responded to Paisley Street in Pawtucket and were able to arrest Agyeman.

The defendant was taken into custody on Wednesday at the Rhode Island Department of Corrections facility, then returned to Stoughton for his arraignment.

Agyeman was held without bail, and is scheduled for a dangerousness hearing March 3.
