Administrators and staff of the Alice M. Waddington Elementary School in East Providence were on high alert Thursday after learning a student reported being approached by a man outside her home after school.

Parents of children in the East Providence school system were notified Thursday afternoon, receiving e-mails, phone calls, and text messages from the Superintendent warning parents of the incident.

The man that reportedly approached the child is described as a man with a mustache in a dark colored vehicle. Parents are asked to get in touch with police if they see anything suspicious.

ABC6 caught up with a few parents who say this is very alarming.

"I received an automated voicemail, and when I received the alert I immediately kind of went into panic mode. My son’s dad texted me wondering if our son was okay," said Chantel Viera.

This is the second report of a similar incident this week in Rhode island after a 12-year-old boy said a man approached him Tuesday in Cranston on his way to the bus stop. There is no word yet if the two incidents are related.

Police in East Providence and Cranston have heightened their presence around schools.
