Sugar gliders need homes– lots of them
BOSTON (WLNE)– Do you and 43 of your friends have experience caring for tiny “gliding” marsupials?
That’s the question put forward by the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, after what they say is the largest surrender of sugar gliders in the chapter’s history.
The group says the original owner became overwhelmed when the animals began breeding, and had to surrender them out of concern for their wellbeing.
Now they’re being cared for at the organization’s adoption centers in Jamaica Plain and Methuen, where it’s hoped a few– or a lot– of people will come forward to give them a home for the holidays.
Some of the females may be pregnant, the MSPCA said, so they’re being held back for the time being.
But the group says that means there could be even more sugar gliders needing homes soon.
Sugar gliders make for cuddly pets, but require some special care that may make them unsuited for all homes.
The group says they are social creatures, and love to find their way into pockets and pouches.
The MSPCA is arranging for animal adoptions by appointment, a result of the ongoing pandemic.
Anyone interested in adopting should email the Boston adoption center at adoption@mspca.org, or methuen@mspca.org.
