Sunny, Steamy, and Stormy Sunday Weather

The weekend will finish with a big jump in heat and humidity. Sunday starts with sunshine and as we go through the day, you will notice an increase in heat and humidity. High temperatures will top out near 88 inland and 82 at the beaches. Starting in the afternoon, clouds will build in as a cold front comes in. From late afternoon to about 10 pm, we will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Of any thunderstorms we indeed have, there is the chance of them making severe weather. Damaging winds that could lead to spotty power outages and frequent lightning are the main concerns for severe weather late Sunday. Behind this cold front we will clear for Monday morning. There will be a refreshing and cooler airmass in place. Monday will be mostly sunny and much cooler with highs near 72. Tuesday will also be sunny and cooler than average with highs near 76. Clouds build in for Wednesday with a chance of late day showers that last into the night thanks to a warm front. Wednesday will have highs near 75. Warmer air begins to come into the region Thursday as high approach 78 with mostly sunny skies. Friday is a perfect summer day with sunshine and highs in the lower-80s. Saturday is looking the same with sun and highs near 84.

TROPICAL UPDATE: Hurricane Erin is a major category 5 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 160 mph. As it skirts the northern Caribbean islands, it is bringing extremely heavy  rainfall to Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and the northern Leeward Islands. Flooding and mudslides are of great concern. As the storm enters the western Atlantic, seas will build and surf will become rough up the eastern seaboard of the continental US. Life-threatening rip currents are expected next week as a result across southern New England beaches. Do not swim without the presence of a lifeguard. Weaker swimmers and children should avoid swimming altogether when the rip current risk is elevated.

Be safe. Kelly
