Support still strong for Karen Read after third day without verdict
DEDHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — After three days there is still no verdict in the Karen Read murder trial.
A large group of Read supporters, all dressed in pink, were outside of the courthouse patiently waiting and said they are hopeful a verdict will come Friday.
“It does seem like they are kind of dragging this out,” one said.
Read is accused of hitting her Boston police officer boyfriend John O’Keefe with her SUV outside of a Canton home in 2022.
She argued that she had no involvement in O’Keefe’s death.
“Since the trial started, we are here every day, we are here for every pre-trial hearing,” Abington resident Paul Cristofro said. “You don’t see that often.”
The defense argued Read is the victim of a cover-up involving Massachusetts State Police.
Canton resident Jack Carney said that he believed the investigation “wasn’t done right.”
“You have to support her, it’s horrible what is going on,” he said “You can’t always blindly trust the police.”
Read has been charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter while operating a vehicle under the influence, and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.
“I just hope that whatever the verdict is, it’s true justice,” a supporter said.
The group added they will continue to be in front of the courthouse with the hopes of reaching a verdict in this case.
