NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE)- A New Bedford man has been arrested in connection to Monday’s shooting in the city.
The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said that 59-year-old Alfonso Richards was arrested in Virginia early on Tuesday morning.
Interstate agencies had been told to be on the look out after police had become suspicious that Richards had fled the state.
Virginia State Police arrested Richards on I-95 just outside of Stafford County.
Richards was originally charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, but the charge was upgraded to murder on Wednesday. He is expected to be arraigned in New Bedford on Thursday.
