Suspect arrested in Fairhaven triple-stabbing incident

FAIRHAVEN, Mass. (WLNE) — A New Bedford man has been arrested in connection with a Sunday triple-stabbing incident in Fairhaven.

According to Fairhaven police, 21-year-old Gavin Massas was taken into custody without incident Tuesday.

The Cherry Street attack occurred after an altercation and left three people wounded, one of them critically.

Police said that they recovered a firearm at the scene they believe to belongs to Massas.

The suspect is facing multiple charges in the incident:

  • Assault and battery with dangerous weapon (firearm)
  • Assault with intent to murder with a firearm (two counts)
  • Assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (knife)
  • Assault and battery with a dangerous weapon with severe bodily injury (knife)
  • Carrying a loaded firearm without a license
  • Disorderly conduct
  • Disturbing the peace

Massas was arraigned Wednesday at Third District Court in New Bedford.

The investigation into the stabbings is ongoing.
