PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE): Troy Ingram, 21, is charged for murdering Mohsin Muhammad , 41, over the weekend.

Police believe Ingram killed Muhammad inside Muhammad’s apartment on Jewett Street. However, Ingram’s mother told ABC6 news that this is out of character for her son.

“I want everyone to know I believe my son is innocent and I want answers,” Lashuan Lassiter said.

In July, Ingram was accused of shoplifting from a Walmart and this is now a violation of his bail.

Ingram’s father is also no stranger to crime. Back in 2005, Troy Lassiter was sentenced to 11 years for the murder of David Andrews, 17, in 1996.

Ingram’s mother said her son is not a murderer though.

“A parent knows their child, Lassiter said. “I didn’t see any signs. Him murdering someone? No.

Ingram has been in the Rhode Island National Guard for 2 years. His current position is private first class, according to the National Guard.

Muhammad worked at the 7-Eleven on Smith Street. His co-workers called police after he did not show up for his night shift.

It is still unclear if Ingram and Muhammad had any relationship.

Police called it a gruesome scene and said Muhammad died from blunt force trauma.

Ingram’s bail hearing is scheduled for August 5th.
