Suspect in 2024 car strike death pleads not guilty

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A suspect in the 2024 death of 21-year-old Isaac Vasquez plead not guilty in court Wednesday.

24-year-old Edwin Torres was charged with First Degree murder.

Police responded to a large disturbance at around 1 a.m. at Oak Street and Trainor Street in Cranston.

Officers found a 15-year-old stabbed in the back on the scene who was taken to a hospital.

23-year-old Destiny Torres stabbed the victim, and was seen getting into a vehicle with Edwin Torres.

Officers said they witnessed Edwin Torres purposely hit Vasquez with his car, and Vasquez was later pronounced dead.

Torres was given $75,000 bail.

Destiny Torres was also charged with one count of felony assault with a dangerous weapon.
