Suspect in custody after Wilbraham police officer was shot

WILBRAHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — Massachusetts State Police said a Wilbraham man is in custody after allegedly shooting a police officer and barricading himself in his home.
Police said that around 9 p.m. Saturday Wilbraham police requested assistance after “exchanging gunfire” with a person in a home on Old Carriage Drive.
An officer was struck by gunfire and taken to an area hospital.
The suspect then barricaded himself in the home while state police tactical, crisis negotiation, and K-9 teams responded.
Hostage negotiators established a line of communication into the home, while a drone was flown inside to find the man, who was suffering from gunshot wounds.
The man was taken into custody around midnight after police entered the home. Police also rescued two occupants who had escaped to the roof of the home’s garage.
The man was taken to an area hospital under police custody. A firearm and ammunition were found next to him.
