Suspected drunk driver crashes into police cruiser in Sharon

SHARON, Mass. (WLNE) — A suspected drunk driver crashed into the back of a police cruiser that was on the side of Interstate 95 north in Sharon Sunday morning.

Massachusetts State Police said a trooper was helping a disabled vehicle around midnight, when a vehicle with three passengers slammed into the cruiser.

After the crash, the police officer put out a radio call for EMS and additional patrols.

The three passengers in the Mercedes that slammed into the cruiser were all taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for minor injuries. After being released from the hospital, the 31-year-old male driver from Randolph was arrested.

The trooper walked without injuries.

The driver is being charged with:

  • OUI: liquor
  • Open Container
  • Operating to Endanger
  • Failure to comply with ‘Move Over Law’
  • Operating a vehicle at a speed in excess of the posted limit
