Suspects in killing of 7-year-old girl to face judge

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Two suspects accused in the shooting death of a 7-year-old girl will face a judge today.
19-year-old Ahmari Cabrera, of Providence and 26-year-old Shaheem Nathaniel, of Cranston, have been charged with murder in connection with the girl’s death on Thursday, August 29 on Carleton Street.
The 7-year-old was in critical condition for three days, unfortunately passing away from her injuries yesterday.
A statement from a spokesperson for Providence police reads in part, “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim involved in this tragic incident, resulting in the death of an innocent child. We will continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident and further charges may be forthcoming.”
It’s not clear at this time what led to the shooting.
Both suspects will appear in 6th District Court this morning.
