Suspicious death investigated in Narragansett

NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WLNE) — Police in Narragansett investigated a “suspicious death” Monday afternoon on Inkberry Trail.

Police Chief Sean Corrigan said a woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances inside a home around 1:25 p.m.

The discovery stemmed from a wellbeing check requested by a neighbor, according to police.

“They hadn’t heard from that person in a few days,” Detective Lieutenant Ryan Prest said. “So we went up and did a wellbeing check, and our patrol officers located the party deceased inside of the residence.”

Officials said a suspect was taken into custody in connection with the death, but noted that the investigation was still in its early stages.

“They’re doing an autopsy to determine the cause of death,” Prest said. “But we do have a suspect in custody and we believe they will be arraigned tomorrow.”

Police said they were working to determine what the charges will be, adding they believed this was an isolated incident.

The suspect is cooperating with police, according to authorities.

The victim has not yet been identified, but officials said more information would be released Tuesday.
