Swansea parents react to search for man who attempted to kidnap teen girls

SWANSEA, Mass. (WLNE) — The Swansea Police Department is still working to identify a man who approached two 13-year-old girls on March 28.

The department is asking the public for help in finding a man who tried to lure 13-year-old girls into a car behind a local store.

Police said the man is in his 60’s with gray hair and an “average build.”

The car was a four-door dark blue sedan, possibly a Hyundai Sonata.

Swansea parents told ABC 6 News the incident is not a normal occurrence in their town.

“I haven’t heard anything like this in Swansea,” Patrick Bowers said. “We have been here for five and a half years. I don’t hear much of this going on around here so that is one of the reasons we like it here. At the same time, if this is going to happen more often, then we have to be more vigilant about it. It is one of those things that just reminds you as a parent to be safe and secure at all time.”

The man apparently approached two girls around 2:45 p.m. on the bicycle path on Milford Road and asked if they wanted a ride.

The girls ran away after they asked him to repeat his question.

Security cameras captured the man described above as the dark blue sedan was parked at Target.

The man exited the vehicle, removing items from the front and back seats and placing them in the trunk.

Police said he then walked away from the vehicle and stared down the road, in the direction from where the girls would be walking.

Police scheduled a press conference for Friday but had to reschedule to deal with the investigation.

Swansea Police ask that anyone who may have seen the man in question or the vehicle described to call 508-674-8464.
