Swansea residential school staff member dies after alleged assault by student

SWANSEA, Mass. (WLNE) — Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn, III said a staff member at Meadowridge Academy is Swansea died after allegedly being assaulted by a student on Oct. 15.

Quinn said 53-year-old Amy Morrell of Riverside, Rhode Island was kicked in the chest by a 14-year-old student who was attempting to leave the school without permission and while staff was attempting to restrain the student.

Morrell was transported to a local hospital, where she died on Thursday.

The student was charged with assault and battery causing serious bodily injury.
