Swastikas drawn in Seekonk school’s yearbooks

SEEKONK, Mass. (WLNE)- Eight graders at a Seekonk school drew swastikas, as well as other inappropriate and racist things, in multiple yearbooks, school officials announced on Thursday.
The district’s superintendent, Rich Drolet, said that “anti-semitic imagery, a racist slur, and inappropriate drawings of a sexual nature” were drawn in at least 20 yearbooks during the Hurley Middle School’s annual yearbook signing event.
The Seekonk Police Department is working with school officials to conduct an investigation of the incident.
“We are extremely disappointed in whoever did this and would like to reiterate that any hateful, derogatory remarks about race, religion and/or sexual orientation and gender identity will not be tolerated within our schools,” said Drolet.
He continued, “the yearbook staff worked tirelessly on this year’s yearbook, and unfortunately the actions of others have marred what is typically a fun, light-hearted event that students look forward to each year.”
