T.F. Green Airport experiences delays and cancellations amid global outage
WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — A global technology outage caused by a faulty Microsoft software update caused chaos worldwide Friday, including at T.F. Green Airport in Warwick.
The common feeling among travelers of the over 50 delays and five cancellations at the airport was frustration, including for Texas resident Brooklyn Armstrong.
“We are dealing with the flight issues right now,” Armstrong said.
Airlines, banks, hospitals, and other businesses are among the many impacted by the outage, which is believed to be caused by a faulty update to Windows by cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike, and travelers said they felt “stranded.”
“Our plane got delayed and moved back until tomorrow morning and then we booked another plane for later today but as soon as we booked it, it got delayed, so we don’t know what we’re going to do,” Armstrong added.
CEO of CrowdStrike George Kurtz said that the outage was not a security issue and customers remain fully protected.
“We’ve been here since about 8:30 in the morning and we’ll be here until about 8:30 tonight,” Minnesota resident Peter Maher said. “We’ll get a flight to Chicago, have a layover there and probably won’t get home until after 1 a.m.”
