Tardif Nets Game Winner For P Bruins

P Bruins Release

Providence, R.I. — The Providence Bruins defeated the Manchester Monarchs 3-2 in an Atlantic
Division matchup this evening at the Dunkin'
Donuts Center. Chris Bourque, Carter Camper, and Jamie Tardif all got on the board for Providence, and Niklas Svedberg made 29 saves in the
winning effort.

Providence came out strong in their fourth regular season game against
the Monarchs. Two minutes into the first, on only the second shot of the game, Bourque
netted his second of the season. Off quick passes from Craig Cunningham and Matt
Bartkowski, Bourque's tally put the P-Bruins up 1-0, and set the tone for
the rest of the period. Shortly after the Bourque goal, Manchester got caught
with too many men on the ice, and the P-Bruins' power play didn't waste any
time capitalizing on their opponent's mistake. Camper snuck one by Monarch
goalie Peter Mannino for his third
goal of the season, with assists from Jordan
Caron and Ryan Spooner, to
increase Providence's lead to two. The momentum stayed strong from the
Providence bench, and both Lane
MacDermid and Bobby Robins
managed to amplify the crowd with late-period scrums. In the final minutes of
the first, Manchester found themselves in front of Providence goalie Svedberg,
but were denied multiple times as Svedberg stood tall. The period timed out
with the P-Bruins on their penalty kill as the result of a Bartkowski tripping
call.

The second period began with Providence still a man down from Bartkowski's
late first period infraction. After the P-Bruins killed off the penalty, they
had multiple big chances down in front of the Manchester net, but Mannino
denied the surging Providence squad twice. Though Bourque went off for two
minutes after a rough boarding call, the Monarchs still could not manage to get
one by Svedberg. Providence killed their second penalty of the period, but saw
their once solid two-goal lead fall flat as Manchester finally started to fight
back. Brian O'NeillMarc-Andre Cliche. Less
than 30 seconds later, Cliche's stick was hot again, and he tied the game at
two with an assist from former P-Bruin, Andrew
Bodnarchuk. With the atmosphere noticeably less electric, Providence took
back control of the game a minute later. Spooner gathered the puck at center
from Bourque, worked it down the left side and dangled one of the Manchester
defensemen. After Mannino rebuffed his initial try, Spooner passed it off to Tardif,
who tucked the puck backdoor, his fourth of the season, and put Providence up

Providence's earlier energy, as well as Manchester's, seemed to be
sapped as the third period opened. The majority of the first 10 minutes were
spent in a back-and-forth cluster, with the neutral zone getting clogged and
neither team being able to execute any of their chances. Momentum started to
come back near the period's halfway mark, when Manchester's Tyler Toffoli found himself alone in
front of the Providence net, but Svedberg came up huge and denied the Monarch's
only tying chance. The P-Bruins increased their offensive pressure late in the
third, and it paid off. Despite a power play chance for both teams, Providence
was able to hold off the Manchester attack, and earned themselves a 3-2 win on
the night. The P-Bruins went 1-for-2 on the power play, and 2-for-2 on the
penalty kill.
