Taunton crossing guard arrested, fired after physical altercation

TAUNTON, Mass. (WLNE) — A Taunton crossing guard was fired after a physical altercation Monday.

The Taunton Police Department said 68-year-old Louis Chaves was arrested around 7:30 a.m. at Taunton High School.

Officials said officers responded to a report of a disturbance involving a Taunton School District crossing guard and occupants of a motor vehicle.

Chavez was arrested and charged with three counts of assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon.

A spokesperson for Taunton Public Schools said the district terminated Chavez, effective immediately, as a result of the altercation.
