Taunton crossing guard charged with assault after courthouse altercation

TAUNTON, Mass. (WLNE) —  A former crossing guard accused of assault has been charged with additional assault related counts after an alleged altercation with media members Monday.

Louis Chaves, 68 of Taunton, was arrested and charged with assault by means of a dangerous weapon (two counts) and assault and battery after he allegedly assaulted several media members while exiting the courthouse Monday around 4 p.m.

Chaves was in court in connection with an alleged assault that took place early Monday at Taunton High School.

Chaves is expected to be arraigned in Taunton District Court Tuesday.
